2. A case of bag-lady syndrome?

bag-lady syndrome : educated female fear of poverty in old-age

vanish : to disappear suddenly

defeat : to make something fail

mistake ... for : to wrongly think that one person or thing is someone or something else

brokerage firm : a company of brokers, or the place where they work

adverse : not good or favorable

morse : the traditional customs and ways of behaving that are typical of a particular (part of) society

peer dynamics : how you relate to your peers

cripple : to cause serious damage to someone or something

put something in perspective : to compare something to other things so that it can be accurately and fairly judged

 

Life expectancy is... a period of time which is expected to live.

A street bum is... a street wanderer(?) which begs money things from people.

 

3. Luxury living at university

accommodations : <복수취급> 숙박시설

     as a matter of accommodation : 편의상

     have accommodations for ~ : ~를 숙박시킬[수용할] 수 있다.

quarters : <복수취급> 숙소, 주거;(숙박용) 방

    Her own parents wanted to move into the stylish quarters

cramped: very crowded with little space

haul: to pull something heavy with a continuous steady movement

upscale: a high level of luxury

sit well with: to approve or favor

ambitious plans: very grand plans

crop up : to happen or appear unexpectedly

strain : a difficulty or problem

aggravate : to make a bad situation worse

watchdog : person who watches over something of value
